Nominated for an ENnie Award

My Fate SRD site has been nominated for an ENnie for Best Web Site! I could not be more overjoyed!

I’ve been a gamer for a long time, more than twenty years, and I’ve always wanted to be involved in the larger gamer community. I GM a lot and so I write a lot of material but to be honest I’ve always felt that there was a large gap between my homebrew stuff and published material, so I’ve never dipped my toes in the water to try.

Then came the Fate Core Kickstarter. Something about the system resonated with me and I fell in love with gaming again. (I had been a bit blue about D&D 4e being a big heartless MMO/board game and Pathfinder was churning out too much material for me to keep up with.)

So when I discovered that this new-to-me system was going to be openly licensed with the OGL, I found my way to give back to the gamer community by using my Web design skills to build an awesome SRD site where the rules could live.

While building the site I kept three things prominent in my mind, the site had to be accessible to any device, it had to load fast, and it had to be gorgeous.

The Fate SRD site was born and it met those goals.

I’m also happy that the site has been embraced by the Fate community. I see folks linking to it all the time on forums and even the folks over at Evil Hat give me shoutouts from time to time. I’ve even had folks like Adam Dunigan volunteer their time to help improve it!

Basically what I want to say is this, even if I don’t win anything at the ENnies this year, I’m glad to have my contribution appreciated.

[EDIT: I added the callout to Adam Dunigan after this article was originally published.]
