Book Report: Just Fucking Ship

I’m always balancing at least a dozen spinning plates at a time, running from project to project, keeping them all spinning. The only projects that finish are the ones that I do for other people. My own personal projects fall by the wayside as time gets crunched or I find new inspiration for another project.

In 2018, I worked hard to stop spinning so many plates. I started to say “no” to more than I said yes to. It was hard for me, I’m a chronic workaholic.

Just Fucking Ship is a book about focus.

This book is about focusing on a single thing that you want to accomplish, breaking down the steps, and tracking your progress. The metaphor used in the book is accessible, as Amy Hoy, the author, talks about how planning a group dinner is akin to working on a big project. You need to know when your guests will arrive, what their allergies may be, and what you plan to serve. Then you work backwards to figure out how to get all the cooking done, and before that, the shopping for ingredients.
